Battlefield Bad Company 2

I pre-ordered Battlefield Bad Company 2 from steam and got access to the closed PC Beta.

I have played all the Battlefield games going back to Battlefield 1942. I never really liked any FPS’s until I discovered the Battlefield series. There is something about it them that really grabs me.

I tried Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and sold it after playing the short single player mode and then having 30 unenjoyable minutes in the multiplayer.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 has brought the series back to the lofty heights of Battlefield 2. It has a way to suck you in and get you working as a team in your squad to acheive the team goals. This can be done with one of the 4 classes that all have a place in the squad. The medics revive and drop health packs, assault drop ammo, recon spot enemies and engineers help to take out vehicles. All collecting stat points along the way to unlocking better guns and equipment.

If your a bit FPS challenged like myself (I’m improving!), this also makes it far more fun than dying constantly in small maps full of rooms and hallways and 14 year old FPS veterans that care only about their kill/death ratio.

This video was posted on the official website http://badcompany2.ea.com/, it is a great indication of the fun to be had with this game.
Bring on March 2nd!

Life Imitating Seinfeld #1 – Schnitzel Nazi

It seems that everyone knows a Soup Nazi or similar. In our case it’s the Schnitzel Nazi.

Friends and I have discovered a great cafe in the city that specialises in schnitzels.
They mostly do chicken schnitzel sandwiches on your choice of bread and other toppings. They make the best schnitzel sandwiches that I know of. High quality meat rather than the mushed up over processed rubbish you get elsewhere.

Word must have gotten out as they have become quite popular and therefore are pretty busy most lunch-times.
They have a good number of staff so it’s usually still quite fast service though, especially if you get the Schnitzel Nazi.

We can’t be sure but the Schnitzel Nazi seems to be the manager of day to day operations, she certainly gives off the impression that she is in charge.

At lunch-time a line will form and daydreaming or any sort of loss of attention will be frowned upon.  If you are unlucky enough to get the Schnitzel Nazi “next please” will be called out before the last person has had a chance to pick up their food. Do not delay for even a millisecond or a second more forceful “NEXT PLEASE” will be issued.

Sandwiches must be ordered as follows:
– First choose a schnitzel (or salad if thats what you want), do not, I repeat do not forget to advise of bread type.
– Then list all the toppings you want, do not repeat, they heard you the first time.
– If you wanted a drink you should have already got it from the fridge that is hidden away in the corner next to the coffee machine. You can pay for it now and then go and get it but you’re walking on thin ice.
– Quickly hand over the money and once you have your change move out of the way as the next person will have already been ordered to take your place on the production line.

I’m waiting for the day when I hear, “No Schnitzel for you!”

Newcastle United 3-1 Barnsley (FIFA 10)

Barnsley travelled to St James’ Park this weekend to face championship leaders Newcastle United.
Newcastle was always going to be the favourites and the 52000 strong crowd wasn’t disappointed.
Newcastle with the bulk of possession dominated proceedings from the outset. Lovenkrands scoring in the 22nd minute and then Jonas in the 28th minute to give the home side a commanding 2-0 lead both goals coming after some terrible defensive mistakes.
Newcastle didn’t have it all their own way however, as Barnsley pulled one goal back in the 32nd minute courtesy of a brilliant strike from the edge of the box by Hume.
The contest was again dominated by Newcastle after that and Lovenkrands added another goal on 43 minutes after getting onto a brilliant through ball and sliding it past the keeper for his second of the match.
In the second half it could have been far worse for Barnsley if it wasn’t for some exceptional saves from the keeper. They would have been very happy to keep Newcastle goaless.
Newcastle Manager Dante Hicks was delighted with his team’s performance but said they need to be scoring more from situations where they find themselves one-on-one with the keeper. He said they were improving but were still really at semi-pro difficulty.
Next Newcastle travel to the Emirates stadium to face Arsenal in the 4th round of the league cup.

Suffocation – Blood Oath

  1. Blood Oath
  2. Dismal Dream
  3. Pray For Forgiveness
  4. Images Of Purgatory
  5. Cataclysmic Purification
  6. Mental Hemorrhage
  7. Come Hell Or High Priest
  8. Undeserving
  9. Provoking The Disturbed
  10. Marital Decimation

I saw Suffocation live for the first time a few months ago, they were supporting Arch Enemy at the Forum in Melbourne. I hadn’t really heard of them until this point but before the gig I checked out their myspace page and liked what I heard.

Their performance was one of the best Metal shows i have seen for a long time. Full of energy and pure metal brutality. In fact I think they were just as good if not better than Arch Enemy who I was there to see primarily.
This prompted me to check out their CDs. The only one available in Melbourne at the time was Blood Oath which is the new one.

This album is brilliant. Around 50 minutes of pure death metal listening enjoyment. I can’t fault it. every song is awesome. This will go down as one of the classic death metal albums of all time.
The drumming is insane, the bass drums in particular just make me want to get up and start moshing!
The guitar work is some of the most technical death metal I have heard since Death’s Sound of Perseverance and with the down tuning it is mega heavy too.

Buy it!
